I want to start this by saying that I am someone who has a Touhou game as one of their favorite games ever, likes shmups a ton, and tends to like most Touhou games a bunch
This game is the worst in the Windows library and it's not even close.
Not even because it's terrible but because this is pretty much the stale bread and water of shmups. I can think of games in the 80s that had more stuff going on or who had better designed stages and patterns than this game. If this was all I would simply give it a passing score and move on with my life but the times I have to be reminded of this game's existence and how the franchise and fanbase seemingly can't go for more than 2 seconds without referencing it has tired my patience. This is an incredibly biased review but I don't care, the world has to know.
First off, the moment you jump above Normal this game shows its flaws very quickly. The rank system in this game is very poorly thought out and there are no real ways of altering or having it be a dynamic system like in Battle Garegga and Ibara. Some patterns, like Books in Stage 4, Patchouli against Marisa A, Sakuya and Remilia basically spray shit all over the screen and call it a spell card. No Missing this game is pure torture which goes against that Spell Card Bonus system.
Even that, Non-Spells and Spell-Cards feel like having either the least amount of differences between the two, or having Non-Spells be practically filler.
